What is a Cat?
A cat (or the full name a cat-o-nine tails) is a variety of flogger that became popular within the military of the mid 1600's and had been used all the way up to the late 1950's. It is a flogger with tightly braided falls numbering anywhere from the original 4 in Biblical times up to the customary 9 or more which were used aboard warships as a form of punishment.
Today within BDSM, the most common cats are usually of braided leather lace with either blood knots or slipknots at the ends of each fall. But of course BDSM does not leave it at just that. The variations are endless and is only limited by someone's imagination. There have been imitation barbed wire cats (made of leather), light chain designs, braided nylon cord, and braided silk just to name a few.
CON012 - The Spider Cat Price: $1350 NZD + Shipping Withdrawn from sale. | Leather: Burgundy cowhide Wrist strap: 340mm loop Handle: - 106mm circumference - Beveled - Burgundy leather turks heads, both bulbed - Mixed herringbone and diamond design Falls: 9/27 falls, 360mm in length Pure intimidation - even just looking at it you know this cat is truly evil. Each fall has a large insert that splinters the fall into three parts, bringing the total falls to 27. Each of these ends in a single blood knot. It is a close range cat with the falls only being 360mm in length and even at low speeds is rather painful. This is most definitely NOT for the fainthearted. |
CON011 - The Chain Cat Price: $300 NZD + Shipping |
Leather: Burgundy cowhide and chocolate kangaroo Wrist strap: 170mm loop, mixed leather Handle: - 94mm circumference - Unbeveled - Red and brown silk turks heads, both straight - Mixed herringbone and diamond design Falls: 7 falls, 500mm in length Why is this cat named for chain when it’s made out of leather? Because each fall has been braided in such a way as to create a chain-like effect. Even the colours used imitate rusty chain. This unique piece offers not only serious pain but also a talking piece amongst your kinky friends. |
CON016 - The Silk Cat Price: $300 NZD + Shipping | Leather: None! This is made out of black silk cord. Wrist strap: 240mm loop Handle: - 106mm circumference - Top Turks head – black silk - Bottom Turks head – elongated Japanese knot in black and champagne - Diamond design Falls: 9 falls, 740mm in length Out of the ordinary for sure – this cat has not a speck of leather in it! Made entirely of silk cord, the beauty of this cat is unparalleled. But don’t take its material and appearance for granted; it still provides some serious impact. Each fall ends in slipknots. This cat took more than 50 hours to braid and assemble. |
CON013 - Bloody Knots Price: $400 NZD + Shipping |
Leather: Brown kangaroo Wrist strap: 350mm loop Handle: - 94mm circumference - Beveled - Black silk Turks heads, both bulbed - Mixed diamond and herringbone design Falls: 8 falls, 500mm in length This is much more typical of what one thinks of when the term “cat” is used. With 8 tightly braided falls, the nasty impact of the blood knots at the end of each fall is what strikes hardest and hurts most. |
CON014 - Slippery Knots Price: $400 NZD + Shipping | Leather: Brown kangaroo Wrist strap: 350mm loop Handle: - 94mm circumference - Beveled - Black silk Turks heads, both bulbed - Mixed diamond and herringbone design Falls: 8 falls, 490mm - 570mm in length Here is the slip knotted mate to the previous cat. Only slightly less intimidating by having slip knots instead of blood knots, it is still worthy of respect and reverence for the impact it can achieve. |
